LORETTA L. BOLYARD, PHD

Clinical Neuropsychology | Civil Forensics | Criminal Forensics

Dr. Bolyard is a licensed clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist specializing in clinical and forensic psychological and neuropsychological evaluation. Her practice focuses on objectively answering complex diagnostic, functional, and legal questions through comprehensive, evidence-based assessment.

Dr. Bolyard provides independent medical evaluations (IMEs), comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations, and forensic psychological and neuropsychological evaluations in both civil and criminal matters. She conducts competency to stand trial, criminal responsibility (mental state at the time of the alleged offense), fitness-for-duty, capacity, guardianship, and conservatorship evaluations, as well as diagnostic clarification in complex neurological and psychiatric cases. She also provides consultation to attorneys, employers, healthcare organizations, courts, and government agencies.

Dr. Bolyard no longer accepts new clinical referrals, allowing her to dedicate her practice to forensic evaluation, independent medical evaluations, consultation, and her role as Clinical Director of MWPR. In that role, she oversees clinical quality and program development, mentors clinicians, supports interdisciplinary collaboration, and works to expand access to specialized behavioral healthcare throughout Montana. She continues to care for her established patients, reflecting her commitment to continuity of care.

Dr. Bolyard served on the Montana Board of Psychologists from 2018 to 2023, including four years as Chair. She also served as President-Elect of the Montana Psychological Association in 2024 and has held numerous leadership roles dedicated to strengthening her local community.

Dr. Bolyard earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, with an emphasis in Neuropsychology, from the University of Montana in 2011 and also completed a master's degree in Cellular Neuroscience. She completed advanced specialty training in neuropsychological assessment at the Puget Sound VA Medical Center before entering private practice, where she received additional supervision under a board-certified forensic neuropsychologist. In 2014, she returned to Montana and co-founded Mountain West Psychological Resources with her husband, Darren.

In recognition of her commitment to innovation, leadership, and service, Dr. Bolyard was named Montana's Small Business Person of the Year by the     U.S. Small Business Administration in 2024.
